Modern Facilities

Living in Sutherland does not entail putting up with lack of life's small luxuries - still less its necessities!  On this page, read about Sutherland's healthcare, Council service points network, post offices, banks and electronic media networks.

HEALTHCARE

Sutherland's residents enjoy high standards of healthcare.  Our Partner organisation NHS Highland is responsible for healthcare in Sutherland and neighbouring areas.  As a customer-responsive organisation, NHS Highland is proud to participate in the North Highland Community Health Partnership.  Community Health Partnerships are responsible for:

  • Supporting the improvement of the health of local communities
  • Providing health services for local people
  • Involving local people, health and social care professionals, voluntary and independent organisations, in decisions that affect the planning and delivery of health care and health services for their communities
  • Co-ordination of the planning, development and provision of health services

The NHS Highland website provides useful information about Sutherland residents' access to hospitals, specialist medical services, NHS 24 and local GP services.  To learn more about NHS Highland and its work, just follow the NHS Highland link on our "Home/Partnership" page - or just go to:

HIGHLAND COUNCIL SERVICE POINTS

Even in this day of online communications and transactions, people sometimes prefer face-to-face contacts with those who provide their services.  That is why the Highland Council provides an extensive network of Service Points across Highland, of which no fewer than nine are in Sutherland.  These Service Points provide direct access to Council services, and friendly, experienced customer care staff can help with any Council enquiry.  For the detail, go to the Highland Council website, and go to "Living Here/Service Points Network".

POST OFFICES

Sutherland enjoys excellent Post Office coverage, with a total of no fewer than 23 Post Offices across the county - that's one for every 500 or so Sutherland residents!  For details, just go to the Post Office website and click on "Branch Locator".  Postcodes which wholly or partly feature Sutherland addresses are IV24, 25, 27 and 28, and KW8,9,10,11,13 and 14.

BANKS

Scotland's "Big Three" banks - Royal Bank of Scotland, Bank of Scotland and Clydesdale Bank, together muster a total of 8 branches, providing a friendly, local service to Sutherland's 12,000 or so people.  In addition, a network of ATMs permits ready access to cash.

INTERNET ACCESS

The Internet is available right across Sutherland, with the great majority of communities now enjoying Broadband access.

MOBILE PHONE NETWORKS

Whilst it is certainly possible to find places, in Sutherland's secluded glens, which are out of reach of mobile phone networks, access to the main mobile phone networks in Sutherland is now virtually universal anywhere close to the county's roads system.
